Summer Golf Gear Checklist 2026 — What Every Bag Needs in the Heat
The complete summer golf gear checklist for 2026 — sun protection, hydration accessories, glove rotation, and heat-specific bag upgrades that make summer rounds survivable.

Why Summer Golf Is Different
Summer golf means 90°+ heat indexes, 5-hour rounds in full sun, and sweating through a glove in 6 holes. The standard cold-weather bag setup is not adequate. Summer requires a different gear philosophy: more gloves, better sun protection, hydration gear, and accessories that still perform when wet.
1. Three-Glove Rotation
In summer heat, one cabretta glove lasts 6 holes before it is soaked and starting to lose grip. A 3-glove rotation: hole 1-6 on glove one, 7-12 on glove two, 13-18 on glove three. Each glove dries on the bag for 12 holes between uses. This rotation requires a glove 3-pack minimum — ideally 4-5 gloves for a summer season.
2. UPF 50+ Arm Sleeves
The most effective sun protection tool for golfers. UPF 50+ arm sleeves cover from wrist to elbow, do not require re-application, do not sweat off, and do not interfere with the swing. The 2026 summer update: mesh-vent construction moves sweat away from the skin rather than trapping it.
3. Insulated Water Bottle for the Bag
A round in summer heat requires 64+ oz of water across 18 holes. An insulated tumbler or bottle in the bag side pocket keeps ice water cold through the back 9. The mental benefit of cold water on hole 13 is real — it is the round's reset button.
4. UV Sun Gaiter
Covers the neck, lower face, and ears — the three areas most missed by hats and sunscreen. UPF 50+ fabric, pull-up during the back 9 when the sun is worst. A $22 purchase that does what SPF 50 cannot maintain over a 5-hour round.
5. Performance Hat with Sweatband
A low-crown stretch-fit hat with a moisture-wicking sweatband is the summer round essential. The sweatband absorbs and releases between holes — the hat stays stable and dry through hole 18 without a readjust.
6. Extra Clip-On Towel
In summer, one towel is not enough. The first towel handles club faces. The second towel (on the cart or caddy bag) handles hands, face, and grip wipes. Both towels hang on the bag to dry between uses. At $18 each, running two towels through summer is the single cheapest bag upgrade.
