Golf Club Winter Storage: How to Store Clubs the Right Way
The right way to store golf clubs for the off-season — cleaning, grip condition, temperature considerations, and what to check before the first round back.

Clean Before Storing
Mud and moisture left in grooves over winter accelerates rust on iron faces. Clean every club with warm soapy water, dry completely, and apply a thin coat of club polish or light oil to iron faces before long-term storage.
Grip Check Before the Season
Grips stored in cold, dry conditions lose tackiness faster. Check grip condition before the first round back — if smooth or shiny, regrip before the season starts, not mid-season when you are already playing.
Temperature Rules
Never store clubs in a car trunk long-term — temperature swings dry out grips and can crack graphite shafts over time. A climate-controlled garage or indoor storage area is ideal.
