Golf Rangefinder Guide: With Slope vs Without, and What to Buy
How to choose a golf rangefinder — slope vs non-slope, tournament legal rules, what distance accuracy actually matters, and when a GPS watch is a better choice.

Slope vs Non-Slope
Slope rangefinders show adjusted yardage for uphill and downhill lies — a 150-yard shot playing 158 yards uphill, for example. They are not tournament legal but are legal for casual play and practice.
Non-Slope for Competition
USGA rules allow non-slope rangefinders in most amateur competitions. If you play in member-guest events or any stroke play, stick to a non-slope or a unit with a slope lockout switch.
Distance Accuracy vs Speed
Most modern rangefinders are accurate to within a yard. The bigger differentiator is acquisition speed — how fast it locks onto the flag vs trees behind it. Look for first-target priority (flag lock) on any shortlist.
