Golf Grip Guide: When to Regrip and How to Do It at Home
How to know when your grips need replacing, what grip size means, and how to regrip 14 clubs at home in an afternoon without a shop visit.

When to Regrip
The test: run your thumb over the grip texture. If it feels smooth, shiny, or compressed, the grip has lost its tackiness. Most golfers need new grips every 30–40 rounds or once per season. If you play in the rain, wear happens faster.
Standard vs Midsize vs Jumbo
Standard grips suit most players. Midsize grips reduce grip pressure and help players who tend to hook. Jumbo grips are used by players with larger hands or arthritis. Changing grip size changes swing feel significantly.
Regripping at Home
You need grip tape, solvent, a vise insert, and a hook blade. Wrap the tape, pour solvent over it, slide the grip on while wet, align the seam, and let dry for 2 hours. The WYX Grip Solvent & Tape Kit covers a full set of 14 clubs and costs $26.
WYX Pick
