Golf Fitness for Distance: What Actually Builds Swing Speed
The physical qualities that actually build swing speed for golfers — hip mobility, rotational strength, and what most golfers are missing that a gym membership cannot fix.

Rotation Over Strength
Swing speed comes from rotational velocity, not raw strength. A golfer who can rotate 90 degrees in the backswing with a stable lower body generates more speed than a stronger golfer with restricted hip mobility.
The Hip Mobility Priority
Most amateur golfers lose distance after 40 because hip mobility declines, forcing compensations in the swing. Hip 90-90 stretches done daily for 6 weeks visibly increase turn and carry distance for most players over 35.
Resistance Band Training
Band-resisted rotational exercises train the exact movement patterns of the golf swing. External rotation, hip hinges, and anti-rotation work build the specific strength golf needs. Three sets of each, three times per week.
WYX Fitness Note
Golf fitness resistance bands under $30 target the hip and core rotation the golf swing demands. Add them to bag maintenance and alignment work — the full off-course practice setup.
