3 Drills to Improve Ball-First Contact
Simple practice drills to help golfers improve compression, low point control, and cleaner iron contact.

Intro
Cleaner iron contact starts with controlling where the club meets the ground. These drills keep the work simple, repeatable, and honest.
Drill 1: Towel-Behind-Ball Drill
Place a small towel a few inches behind the ball. Miss the towel, strike the ball, then brush the turf.
Drill 2: Low-Point Line Drill
Draw a line on the turf or mat. Make swings that enter the ground just ahead of the line.
Drill 3: Half-Swing Compression Drill
Use half swings with a short iron and hold your finish. The goal is compression, balance, and a quiet strike.
